Unable to change password.

I'm getting this below error when i change the passwd for any user...what would be the reason and how could i resolve this....

Changing password for XXXXX
New password:
Re-enter new password:
Temporary file busy; try again later for /etc/stmp

Kindly advice...

Does /etc/stmp exist? What are its permissions? Does it contain anything? Can you move it to another name?

Here is the permission level...

-rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 0 Jan 30 08:36 /etc/stmp

i moved stmp and i tried...it's working...I can change the password now....Thanks..

But what triggered to create the stmp..? will this create any other problem...due to the move of stmp..?

/etc/stmp is a temporary file that should be automatically removed after the password has been changed.

Something may have happened, or someone may have somehow terminated a passwd command abnormally and the /etc/stmp file did not get removed like it should have.

Renaming it should not cause you any problems.
