Unable to change User or Root password on Trusted Systems

Hi,

i am having a problem with an HP UX 11i server. Tried to login with a username and it popped up a message (attached below)

Am having the same problem even when i try to login a root from the console. This system is trusted.

How do i get out of this. If possible i would like to do this without booting the server.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Unable to change User or Root password on Trusted Systems

You need to be able to get to root. If you can't, then you need to shutdown and boot into single user mode and fix the problem manually.

Once you have done this, use sam or modprpw to reset the users password.

Re: Unable to change User or Root password on Trusted Systems

If you are running certain pieces of software on the server (eg IT/O, Tivoli, or some other software that runs agents that will let you run administrative processes, or even a 3rd party scheduling app), then you can schedule a modprpw against the root account, without actually having the root password presently.

Re: Unable to change User or Root password on Trusted Systems

Thanks everyone. My problem was solved. I used the FIRST 8 characters of the root password and was able to change it. This was because i had set a root password of more than 8 characters before converting to trusted.

SO :

1. logged on as root from console with the complete root password.

2. when a prompt popped up to change the root password, i used the first 8 characters of the original root password.

once accepted, i could change the password.

thanks everyone,
