Unable to go to home dir

Dear Folks

I have this user who is not directed to his own home directory when he logged in to a server. Instead, he ends up on /.

This server is a NFS server.
I have tried changing a few things, but none of them works.

Can someone advice me please? Thank You.

Yes, it is 11.00. Is this the only solution?

Re: Unable to go to home dir

I have checked another server in a similiar setup. No, it should not be the patch.
Any more suggestions, please?

Re: Unable to go to home dir

Hi,

Could you give a bit more info.

automount ?
mount homedir whitout automount ?
# mount server:/home/user /mnt
error messages ?

check passwd, auto_home, auto_master on client.

check permissions on server /home/user.

Hope it helps,

Robert-Jan.

Re: Unable to go to home dir

Hi,

In some of our HP 11.0 machines implemented with AFS. when the user logged in using his afs id, instead of home directory users ends up on /. AFS suggest to use this patch for this problem, and it works well after applying this patch

Re: Unable to go to home dir

Hi!
You could check at least:
1. Are this home dir is described in /etc/passwd /find a row for this user/:
...
thisuser:qUICMhDJkt5PE:129:
102:,,,5:/:/usr/bin/sh
...
2.Are you really have mounted this NFS-dir
from that server on your system, from which
your user want to login.

3.Are you sure he is not there after login:
Try: $pwd

Regards.

Re: Unable to go to home dir

You did not mention that the server complains about not being able to find his home directory. Usually, if a user tries to login to a server with an NFS home directory that is not mounted, the machine complains that it can not find the directory. You may want to check his home directory setting in /etc/passwd.

Good Luck.

...and check file file permissions and ownership on the home directory as well... I think it behaves this way if it's not readable.

...just a thought...
