Unable to load 64 bit HP-UX on K460
I've a K460 but while installing the option of 64bit is not avbl.
The model o/p is showing as 9000/819 and STM is showing the Harware Model string as 0x590. I understand that the model string should be 9000/889 and the Hardware Model should be different (???). Can anyone tell me the correct Hardware Model string in PDC for HP-UX 11.00 to get installed.

Re: Unable to load 64 bit HP-UX on K460
Do u have any K460 at your end? Can you find the Hardware Model string (STM information output gives the string).
Regards,
Panchu

Re: Unable to load 64 bit HP-UX on K460
What Melvyn can't tell you is that you have tripped over something which is done by SSCONFIG. That holy-of-holys program owned by HP (and you better be ready to go to prison if you try to reverse engineer the program or use a copy of it. FBI SWAT teams tend to show up at the businesses who try to use or reverse engineer it) which is used to change the hardware and software ID of a computer when an upgrade is done.
Perhaps you got this box from a 3rd party? or had it upgraded previously? Melvyn is suggesting you allow HP unrestricted access to the guts of it to tinker with how it identifies itself and perhaps rob you of capability.

Re: Unable to load 64 bit HP-UX on K460
The STM Information o/p gives the string in product desciption CPU(HHH) and also as Hardware Model: 0xHHH.
Paul: What is this SS_Config? I've never heard of it before.

Re: Unable to load 64 bit HP-UX on K460
The HP Engineers utility called SS CONFIG is for older servers and can adjust the clock (yes, its speed is adjustable) or set the model string. This is because some of the older HP servers can actually be used as HP 9000's or HP 3000's so depending on what the customer wants it for the engineers can set the model string.
One of our K classes want set correctly when we tried to load 11/64 bit, no-one had tried to hack it, just an oversight when built at the factory. The Engineer came in, ran SS CONFIG, reset it to K580, and 64bit loaded aok. But no other option but getting an engineer in im afraid - and even when they come in they will need to make a phone call to get the necessary password to reset it (HP dont even trust their engineers with it!).
