Unable to load macro into Laserjet 4050 through Resource Manager

I have attempted to use Resource Manager to an HP 4050 in a hybrid IP/IPX environment where the printer is IPX. Am constantly getting the following message "Unable to contact LASER3. Please check mass storage and network connections". Is this a software (ie IPX issue) or hardware can we purchase something to make this go away? How can I load a macro to this printer or any HP printer. Ultimately this will run in an Unix environment I am just trying to prove concept.
