Unable to lock 6144MB physical RAM: Resource temporarily unavailable

I reconfigured a VM (vm4) from 4GB to 8GB memory. There seems to be enough free memory available but I can't start the VM after adding 4GB memory. The VM works fine I switch the memory back to 4GB.

Shalom,

Recommend checking memory allocation to other guest systems. There may be a problem with the amount or location of memory in use buy other guest machines.

Re: Unable to lock 6144MB physical RAM: Resource temporarily unavailable

I have attached the hpvmstatus output above which shows how much memory is allocated to each guest. The host has 32GB physical memory.

vm1 5 HPUX On (OS) 4 5 1 2 GB 0
vm2 8 HPUX On (OS) 4 3 1 8 GB 0
vm3 10 HPUX On (OS) 4 2 1 7 GB 0
vm4 33 HPUX Off 4 2 1 8 GB 0

Hi Rajeev jain,

Could you please post a kmeminfo output from the host if you have it installed, if not you can download from:

ftp://eh:spear9@hprc.external.hp.com/memory.htm

also the output from:

#swapinfo -atm
#hpvmstatus -s

Thnx

Windows?, no thanks

Sorry to change the host here but I am still having the same problem. The VM fibak works fine but I cannot even start nfsvm because of low memory.

Re: Unable to lock 6144MB physical RAM: Resource temporarily unavailable

Hi,

10% of the Physical Memory is to be used by VMHOSTS.

What is the SwapMemory using by VMHOSTS.

if it is less increase the Swap memory for
VMHOSTS & Then try to start.

Re: Unable to lock 6144MB physical RAM: Resource temporarily unavailable

not sure how the swap will play a role here, i do have 16gb swap allocated to each VM and 32gb for HOST server.

what you mean by I could use only 10% of physical memory for VMs?

Re: Unable to lock 6144MB physical RAM: Resource temporarily unavailable

Hi Rajeev,

It is important to understand that VM guest should be started in supported configuration...

Swap space equal to 1.5 times the size of physical memory for ALL GUESTS.

setting swapmem_on to ZERO which disables psuedo-swap

Note that HPVM installation sets swapmem to "0" and it this setting must be maintained. (In other words, do NOT set swapmem to "1".)

Best Regards,
Prashanth
