unable to login
HPUX11i (our test server)
For some reason, yesterday, the machine seemed to stop processing and I could not login. Today, the same thing has just happened.
On the console, I press enter to try and get the login prompt however, it just returns a blinking cursor.
Yesterday, I had to power cycle the machine.
I tried to telnet from another machine and this is all I get:
Trying...
Connected to istatux.
Escape character is '^]'.
I am able to ping the machine howerver.
Any ideas?

Re: unable to login
If you can't get in anyway, try disconnecting the system from the LAN and then loggining in at the console. Does this now let you in?
Once you're in have a look at your /etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/resolv.conf files - everything look OK?

Re: unable to login
it could be that some service is taking up the entire CPU cycle and not allowing any process to run.
check the system performance statistics to look for the problem.
Hope this helps,
Gopi

Re: unable to login
Also, are you having the problems connecting to console??
What is the ndd setting for ip_ire_gw_probe??
(for help check ndd -h ip_ire_gw_probe. It should be disabled)

Re: unable to login
Seeing as I am hosed and unable to login, I will proceed with the following suggestions from you.
I will disconnect it from the lan to see if the console comes back.
If not, then, I will likely force a power cycle once again and completely review the /etc/rc.log file and dmesg to see if anything is there.

Re: unable to login
Model No., OS revision would help a bit more to identify the procedure to identify the cause of this ? Normally HP systems have MP/GSP card which logs all hardware states to their logs. You can check those, but it depends on your model how to check those ? Did you fould anything in OLDsyslog.log after last power recycle ?

Re: unable to login
Root disk appears hosed. I swaped it and re-installed the O/S.
Now I am trying to reimport my vgs that were on the JBOD>
Thanks for your replies.
