Unable to ping but can telnet

I installed an additional lan to a HP c3750 OS 11.00 and configured the card on a separate network. I can ping others on the network from the new card but when working from another server, I can not ping the newly installed lan/Ip address, telnet works with no problems. Is there a setting not allowing ICMP response messages. The message I am recieving is "request timeout" when pinging for a PC. Thanks

Re: Unable to ping but can telnet

Are you behind a firewall ? OR it may be any network devices in between you source and destination.

Re: Unable to ping but can telnet

Hi Frank,

ICMP echo responses cannot be disabled under HP-UX without the addition of firewall/filtering software. It sounds as though a hardware firewall is blocking the packets en route.

Re: Unable to ping but can telnet

I was able to figure out was not going on. We are use ipfitering and the /etc/opt/ipf.conf file have to be modified to allow ping response. i believe there are setting that would diallow ssh and telnet. Try it.
