Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

If you try from outside the blade center - can you access the MPs? Can you access the switch management? Did you already configure and connect the switch(es)?

Don't care about mezzanines ... NICs are ALWAYS there.

Hope this helps!

Yes I can Access the MP

Can you access the switch management?
Yes I can also telnet to the Switch

Did you already configure and connect the switch(es)?
Yes they have been configured and connected

But HP said it is cos there is no single Mezzanine Card in the server.

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

Is it something like the OA password and the iLo Password should match.

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

Being able to connect to the OA and iLO proves nothing, as presumably you have a LAN connection straight into the OA from your network that doesn't go anywhere near the ethernet interconnect bays (bays 1 and 2 on the back of the blade)

Your BL860C server has 4 onboard NICs. You will see these in the OS as lan0, lan1, lan2 and lan3. These correspond to NICs 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the front panel. See here:

http://docs.hp.com/en//AD217-9014B/ch01s10.html

Now these NICs are connected through the backplane of the blade chassis to inteconnect bays 1 and 2 on the back of the c7000. You can see that in the diagram on p180 of this manual here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00705292/c00705292.pdf

In the data you've given above, you indicate that you are using lan0. The diagram indicates that lan0 (NIC 1) connects to interconnect bay 1.

So the first question is - do you actually have your 3020 switch in bay 1?

Assuming you do, have you actually read the manual here and run through the setup tasks described in it?

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/blades/3020/hardware/quick/guide/3020GSG2.html#wp36851

At this stage I can't help thinking it would have been more cost effective to purchase some installation days from HP/your reseller to do this for you, you really are fumbling around in the dark...

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

Hi,

Thanks for the information...

I have the Blade in bay 01
I have two cisco 3020 switches in Interconnect Bay's 1 & 2.I have connected the cable in one of the ports 17x-24x on the Interconnect Bay'1.

After which I was able to access the switch in Bay'1. Now I have power cycled the Enclosure and unable to access the cisco Switch..

I can see both the Management URL's in the Interconnect Bay Summary for the HP Onboard Administrator.

I understand that NIC1/LAN0 is mapped to interconnect Bay01.

You didn't answer one of those questions:

Have you actually read the manual here and run through the setup tasks described in it?

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

Duncan,

I have read the manual...

Check the screen shot of the attached... I have a pop up window asking for the user name and password... I am not sure if the user name is switch or not...

I am about to complete the setup and may be I will be able to ping the server.

Plz check and tell If I am correct in assigning the IP's...

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

sorry... missed out the attachement

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

A quick google on level_15_access would appear to indicate you use the hostname of the switch as the user ID, and the password you've already entered...

Have you tried that?

Re: Unable to ping my server which is up and running

I have also found that in Google...

the default hostname of the switch : Switch and the password I have already tried...

And some of the other threads in itrs linked to IP conflicts with other window boxes in the network... So I have powered Off and reseated the switch.. and the settings are back to normal..

I am still breaking my head as how to make the server pingable from my windows machine.

I will try one last time:-
Let me summarize the issue---

-MP,switch,and OA got their ip(Class A) through DHCP(x.x.91.x) & I have given a static IP(x.x.93.x) for the server.

-I have another server with IP(x.x.93.x) which I am able to ping & telnet from my desktop.

-From the 21x port of the switch 1 on Interconnect Bay 1 I have connected the cable to the black box.

-I am able to access the OA,MP,switch from my desktop.

-I login to the OS from MP>CO

-Now for the Express Setup from (Catalyst Blade Switch 3020 Device Manager - Switch) the CISCO device Manager when i give

VLAN ID=1
IP ADDRESS= x.x.91.x
SUBNET MASK=255.255.255.0
Default Gateway =x.x.93.1 and the switch password and hit enter

I get the error " The IP Address x.x.91.x is conflicting with already configured IP Address of the following interface--- fe0 "

And when I give

VLAN ID=1
IP ADDRESS= x.x.93.x
SUBNET MASK=255.255.255.0
Default Gateway =x.x.93.1 and the switch password and hit enter

It asks for a Username & Password [level_15_Access] and when I give Switch/ it says Access denied. And I will have to re-cycle the switch and reseat it in Bay 1.

I have check from the OS/Network persective.. which seems to be fine.
