unbootable rp5470

we have an rp5470 with hpux 11.0. when i tried to boot up the server, it just stops at the ISL prompt. Does this mean that my OS has been corrupted and I need to reinstall everything? I tried to boot it using the support plus dvd but I am unaware of the next steps to take. Please help.

Thanks.

Re: unbootable rp5470

Do you see any error messages?

Try to boot manually:

ISL> hpux

What result do you get?
If the disk is mirrored, try to boot from the alternate:

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo alt
Interact with IPL (Y, N, or Cancel)?> n
...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: unbootable rp5470

I tried to do the steps you suggested but when I did so, it just brings me back to the ISL prompt.

Quickly? Or it starts booting all over?
You could also use "ls" at the ISL prompt to see if there is a hpux boot program.
There should be an autoboot file there too.

See isl(1m) and hpux(1m).

Re: unbootable rp5470

Here is the output of "sea ipl"

Path# Device Path (dec) Device Path (mnem) Device Type
----- ----------------- ------------------ -----------
P0 0/0/1/1.2 intscsib.2 Random access media
P1 0/0/2/0.2 intscsia.2 Random access media
P2 0/0/2/1.0 media.0 Sequential access media

I then tried to boot from P0 and P1 to no avail. Just brings me back to ISL prompt.

Re: unbootable rp5470

These are your boot disks:

P0 0/0/1/1.2 intscsib.2 Random access media
P1 0/0/2/0.2 intscsia.2 Random access media

Try to boot from and stop at ISL.
Run
ISL> ls
and
ISL> hpux ls
and
ISL> hpux ll
post the output!

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
