Re: Uninstalling oracle 7.3.4 on hp 9000 D Class
If you do mean uninstall you can use the Oracle Universal Installer to uninstall products, however personally I would probably just reinstall the machine and put on a completely fresh installation of Oracle 8i.
If you mean upgrade you just need to follow the upgrade documentation.
Hope this is of some help,
Kind regards,

Re: Uninstalling oracle 7.3.4 on hp 9000 D Class
With your software there should be an installer
from Oracle. This program is also used for uninstalling Oracle items. For 7.3.4 look for orainst in your ORACLE_HOME/orainst directory.
By the way, to install Oracle 8i you have to do it with Xwindows. The Oracle Universal Installer only works on GUI base. If you work with HP-UX 11.0, there is a patch for mounting
these Rockridge formatted CD's from Oracle ( you do not have to go for the pfs_mount stuff then ).
Patches for HP-UX 11.0 :
PHCO_26449
PHKL_26448
PHKL_26450
So be careful.

Re: Uninstalling oracle 7.3.4 on hp 9000 D Class
actually Oracle7 is simply installed into a starting directory, but not mentioned in your HP-UX's "Installed Products Database", so can stop it, delete the RC scripts to start/stop it upon boot/shutdown, and then remove everything in that directory.
But be careful with the diskspace needed:
7.3.4 needed about 320MB
8.1.7 needs about 1.5GB!!!
And you'll have to configure your kernel to allow at least 256MB of "maxdsiz" to be able to "link" the Oracle-codefiles (which is done by the installer)...
You can find mayn threads explaining the installation of Oracle8i on HPUX here on the ITRC forums, by searching for "Oracle8 runInstaller", e.g.:

Re: Uninstalling oracle 7.3.4 on hp 9000 D Class
The good news is if you wipe out the filesytem the software sits on, its gone.
Then check for startup scripts and all.
Find lots and lots of diskpace, install 8.1.7, and consult metalink.oracle.com for data conversion.

Re: Uninstalling oracle 7.3.4 on hp 9000 D Class
8.1.7 is installed off CD using it's own install program running X Windows and Java.
You can run both 8.1.7 and 7.3.4 at the same time. Not too difficult. Just neeed to make sure listeners don't listen on the same port.
