Unix Filesystem backup on remote tape on Linux

Hi,

I has a tape library attached to Linux Machine. I need to take HP UX filesystem backup on that tape drive. Can I do so? If yes what are the steps?

Backup using fbackup? There is a way to use: hostname:device-file

Re: Unix Filesystem backup on remote tape on Linux

"fbackup" and "rdump" on hp can do this if "rmt" is present on the linux box in either /sbin or /etc, and you can rexec into the box.

note that fbackup is has been deprecated for some time, and pax doesn't seem to support this option.

in addition, gnu variants of "tar" *do* seem to support the "machine:device" syntax, while the unix-based tars don't.
