Unix User Manager???

Hi All -
My DBA is asking me to install the "UNIX User Manager" on my HPUX servers. Is there such a thing? Basically he's wanting to be able to kill locks via this utility. I'm searching everywhere & can't find any info on this. Any & all help is appreciated. Thank you!

Maybe someone else has heard of it, but it's a new one on me.

Re: Unix User Manager???

As far as I know, it is not a unix product. It may be a database utility of some sort. What database product is the DBA using? Oracle? Sybase? DB2? etc?

Re: Unix User Manager???

Is he maybe referring to "SUDO"?

It would be able to let him kill locks without having root access, but not sure what he's talking about for sure.

See if you can get an actual product name out of him. If you can (even if it's not an HP product) someone here can look it up and give you the HP equivalent.

Tell the DBA you allready have the "UNIX User Manager" installed. Then show him the users and group portion of sam ;)

I just love messing with DBA's and Developers.

Wow! Thanks for the responses!! :o) I was hoping I wasn't going nuts! Our database is Oracle. I'll see if he does know of an exact name. Sometimes he can be quite questionable on what he is trying to get at.
I'll also lookup the SUDO, thanks Shannon.

Re: Unix User Manager???

Hi

I think it might be this:-

But as said restricted SAm and SUDO are better options.

Re: Unix User Manager???

Hi,

I guess what your DBA is talking about is a restricted SAM.
If you will check the man page on SAM you will see that you can deligate authority for a "normal" user.
I guess your DBA got that kind of "service" from another sys admin in a former company...

Best Regards.
