unrecognized vxfs version
Hi all.
I'm running on a hpux 11.11 system.
I foolishly applied some system patches without fully checking them.
the system rebooted after the patches and failed to mount any file systems.
I booted into single user mode, and strangly enough it mounted /vg00/lvol3 (root) and /vg00/lvol1 (stand)
Stand was hfs so didn't surprise me, but root was vxfs.
the root file system mounted but fsck complained it could not generate aggreagate ???
now the interesting thing.
I do fstyp -v -r /dev/vg00/lvol3 /
and I get vxfs version 4 file system - and keep in mind that this is mounted.
I do fstyp -v -r /dev/vg00/lvol5 /opt (not mounted) and I get
vxfs version 4 file system - so this is the same as root.
I then do
mount -F vxfs /dev/vg00/lvol5 /opt and get
vxfs unrecognized version
Judging from my google and forums searches onlinejfs appears to be the package that allowes vxfs filesystems compatablity.
the patches appear to have messed with that.
what is strange I can mount vg00/lvol3 which is the same as vg00/lvol5 both complain but only root mounts.
what I need to do (I think) is somehow get the filesystems mounted and install the latest version of online JFS.
My questions are
a.) Has anyone seen this ?
b.) Does anyone have a correct solution
c.) can I use vxupgrade to downgrade the filesystems to vxfs 3 in the hope of mounting them
d) why can I mount root but not anyother file system even though they are all vxfs version 4
e.) Is there a way I can specify mount options to force a mount eg: mount -o vxfs=version3 /dev/vg00/lvol5 /opt
Any help or advice on this would be appriciated.

Re: unrecognized vxfs version
vxfs version 3 was in HP-UX 11.0
vxfs version 4 is HP-UX 11.11
You can NOT downgrade.
Online JFS doesn't change the vxfs version - it just allows you to perform JFS functions online.
I strongly suggest you place a call with HP on this.
The other option - back out thos patches if you can....
And yet another option - make_tape_recovery - you did do a make_tape_recovery prior to applying patches, right?
You could try re-installing jfs 3.3 from your application cd's.
