Unused Logical Volume

In 10.20 SAM, there is a logical volume that is unused. When I went to remove it to free space, it gave a warning that an umounted /var was there. /var is mounted and under another volume group. I assume it is okay to zip the unused logical volume.
so let it be wriiten so let it be done

Re: Unused Logical Volume

if your absolutely sure the unused lvol is not needed then go ahead and 'zip' it. SAM must have checked this unused lvol and either /var used to be on it at some point or SAM has got a bit confused.

Re: Unused Logical Volume

Or someone made a new var copied old-var to new-var(bigger size) unmounted old-var and mounted new-var on /var
what lvol do you have for /var now, I have lvol8 or 9 (mostly 8)
That could be a explanation ...

Re: Unused Logical Volume

The unused logical volume for the unmounted /var is lvol8 on vg00 and the mounted /var is lvol10 on vg01. I was 99% sure that the lvol8 was moved, no longer needed, and could be zipped. Thx to all

Re: Unused Logical Volume

Sorry I was disturbed...
I would mount that filesystem on /oldvar just to see if its worth keeping or if there is anything to be saved..
than go ahead removing the logicalvolume
