Update to HP_UX 11i v2

Hello,

We are updating our HP-UX system
BUNDLE11i B.11.23.0409.3 Required Patch Bundle for HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23), September 2004
to the latest HP-UX 11iV2 march 2006.
After the update the system want to start but the /stand filesystem is corrupt and needs to check manually. See here te problem without /stand no UNIX and no prompt.
How can I solve this problem without restoring my iginite tape

without stand i think you cant restart your server.

try to boot with vmunix.prev.


at Main menu > bo
interact with IPL: y
isl > hpux /stand/vmunix.prev


i hope with previous vmunix can startup your server

Have you tried booting from install media, going into the recovery shell and telling it you want to mount the media for your installation? At that point, it runs fsck for you on the root file system and you should be able to mount stand and fsck it as well (if it didn't already for you.. I usually corrupt the root, not stand itself).

I do not really know if you have a backup kernel after updating your OS, if you that's good.
One question, how is it the the /stand got corrupted, did you tried to perform any changes to it?
If you did or can not recover with previous kernel, then then booting from ignite tape will get you up and running in no time.

I've alreadye tried to boot from the dvd and go to the restricted shell. But in de restricted shell I don't have the commands mount en fsck. Is there another way to fix?

I backup my system with make_net_recovery before installing the HPUX-11i v2.
I tried to restore this recovery with th following statement:

Main Menu: Enter command or menu >
boot lan 11.1.253.44 /var/opt/ignite/recovery/archives/db1002 install
Interact with IPL (Y, N, or Cancel)?> N

Booting...
Failed to initialize with ENTRY_INIT Status = -7

.... FAILED.

We don't have a tape unit in the machine so that is the only way to make a recovery.
I tried to boot from the install DVD and go to the restricted shell. But I can't repair the filesystem /stand because the command fsck is missing.
Any one an idea?

I've got the messages: lan(0/1/2/0;0)/boot/Rel_B.11.23/WINSTALL: cannot open, or not executable.

I think mine boot sector is corrupt.
Re-Install HPUX from scratch??
