update ux from 11.23 to 11.31

We have an Integrity Server running 11.23 and would like to update to 11.31. Could you provide me some documentation/Steps on how to do that and what would be the precautions that are to be taken while doing this.. so that there is no data loss.

Better use cold install, instead of upgrading.
If you have more time you can test and play with update-ux, but better is to intall it from source (disk, igntite).

Read the installing/upgrading 11.31 guide.

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-4165/index.html

If you are taking a poll.. I would not recommend an upgrade but a cold install of 11.31.

Yep, i vote cold install, i have updated 5 servers from 11.23 to 11.31, update-ux gave me many problems with the first, never tried it again

Re: update ux from 11.23 to 11.31

I'd give update-ux a chance. Do an Ignite backup if the results do not fit your expectations.
First try on the system console (not logged in via ssh etc.!!!):
# update-ux -i -s depot_host:depot_path

This will start an interactive session were you can select/deselect all the bundles you don't want to install.
Make sure your / and /stand have the proper sizes (see above mentioned documentation).
Afterwards you need to check all the logfiles and installed filesets for any leftover of 11.23 like swlist -l fileset|grep 11\.23 and probably remove/reinstall some packages for 11.31.

My 2 cents,
Armin
And now for something completely different...

Hi,
Its more advisable that please go for New installation as comparision to Upgradation.

Re: update ux from 11.23 to 11.31

Grayh,
Speaking from experience it is MUCH better to do a cold install! ALWAYS, unless you absolutely no other option. I have had a few boxes essentially "die" trying to do upgrades.
