update-ux from 11 to 11i
I get a number of errors from the update-ux program trying to load it on my hp-ux11.0 system. The messages range from can not connect to my host to can not write a log to the upgrade media. Has anyone had similar problems with update-ux?

That's why most will say, and I agree with the idea, that you should always do a COLD install of the OS. It's always more safe and usually much faster.

Re: update-ux from 11 to 11i
You should read this cook book
http://us-support3.external.hp.com/iv/data/documents/DE_SW_UX_swrec_EN_01_E/Update11i.pdf
before starting the upgrade
I did not have any problems upgrading to 11i

Re: update-ux from 11 to 11i
Is it a local host name resolution problem , do a nslookup lcoal host name and see how is the name resolved , in case ther are ambigous DNS enteries then I would recommend is that you rename /etc/reslov.conf as some othe file and make a good entry of local host in /etc/hosts and also remove /etc/nssswitch.conf .
