How do you go about updating the OE?
I've seen "bad things" posted about Update-ux.
Is it even necessary? or wise?
Can you just keep patching older OE releases?
Can you use swinstall and select the OE bundle?
Thanks!

Solution
See the example I posted here:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1241964
This applies to 11.23 and 11.31.
Patching only does not bring the new feature, only update-ux does. See the manual for details.
Short: swinstall update-ux from the newer media and run it.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Updating the OE
Hi Clinton:
I think the bad reputation was more specifically deserved/reserved for upgrading one operating system release (e.g. 10.20 to 11.0 or 11.0 to 11.11) rather than for updating an Operating Environment (OE) bundle "within" an version (e.g. 11.23).
The advantage to 'update-ux' is that it refreshes more than just patches. You can, however, maintain a well-updated system using the patch tools (like the Software Assistant (SWA)) coupled with periodic updates of application bundles (compilers, java, Glance, etc.).
Regards!
