Upgradation to 11i
Currently using HP-UX B.11.00 U on a K370 server.
Could anyone please tell?
- How to upgrade to 11i. Is it an easy installation or not?
- Does the upgrade involve many changes in the system?
- The functionality of any existing application will be affected or not?
Thanks

Re: Upgradation to 11i
I would go for a fbackup clean install 11.11 and a restore. Some apps write stuff in vg00 so be sure to back them up /restore ore reinstall that software if versions need to be upgraded.

Re: Upgradation to 11i
Thanks for your reply.
If fbackup is completed for all the file system including the FS belonging to the application and restoring after clean install of 11.11 should put all the files back to the disk. Is the application install is still required.

Re: Upgradation to 11i
It depends on your applications. I can imagine some apps / databases need to be relinked (Oracle), start/stop scripts ( /etc/rc.config.d ) and need a reinstall.

Re: Upgradation to 11i
Oracle din't have to be relinked and all of our apps except a SNA gateway worked fine. (The 11i OS doesn't support ESDI check your cards in the KBOX...)
I upgraded V-Classes,RPs and KXXX in the past. I recommend this procedure.
1. Clean your tape drives.
2. Plan you root drive space usage.
3. Take 2 complete backups.
4. Ignite the box.
5. repartition the drive if necessary with ignite tape created in step 3.
6. Remember 11i is much bigger than 11.
7. install the Upgrade-UX package and associated patches.
8. pray.
9. set aside 6-8 hours of running time. The first CD took about 3 hours.
10. reboot
11. load the latest ignite.
12. Patch.
13. make ignite tape.
14. repartition with ignite tape made in 13 as necessary.
This is basically a summation of a 2 page document procedure that we follow. I add step 8 personnally, it seems to help.
That and wise advice from Heinlein.
