Upgrade 10.20 to 11.00 on D & K classes

[PSL Technical]

I have a massive project on where there are many D classes and K Classes that are required to be upgraded to HPUX 11.00. The majority of these servers have 64Mb or RAM, where some have 32Mb and some have 128Mb. The servers run a 32 bit appliation. Could someone please tell me what implications there are with the memory, what should be the minimum, and how would the server run with this? And also what would be an ideal disk space?

First, depending on the model of the D & K class server, you will probably ONLY be able to go to 32 bit. See:

That should be fine in your case but should be a consideration in the future.

Second, the amount of RAM in your servers is woefully insufficient. While it may meet minimum guidelines, I wouldn't consider any server with less that 512MB of RAM a good candidate for upgrade. You can buy 512MB SIMMs for $625 on the used market.

Third, don't upgrade - the 10.20 to 11.0 upgrade process is fraught with danger, loaded with pitfalls, and almost certainly doomed to failure. Do a cold install instead.

Hi,

For running 11.0 the RAM you have is insufficient,try to put in atleast 256MB RAM, ideal disk space will be atlest 8GB to run any 32 bit applications.

You are trying to upgrade from 10.2 to 11.0, but i suggest you to do cold install rather than upgrading.

I tried to upgrade a H and a K class server from 10.20 to 11.00 a couple of times and as the previous responses there were different errors each time. I then spent a few weeks getting instructions and helpful tips from the forums and both cold installs to 11.00 went smooth and without incidents.

There have been many different similar threads about this subject.

Try a search on upgrade and 11.00 and you will find them.

Most threads mentioned not to upgrade but cold install the systems, to have a clean operating environment.
