Upgrade Fiber Channel drivers Problem - the new drivers are not loaded by HBA card.

Hello expert, Please help. I have a problem to apply the new Fiber Channel drivers and patches from 11.11.06 to 11.11.17. The patches have been successfully install, however the hardware - HBA cards does not load the new drivers. I would like to know why it is happening and how to fix it?

Re: Upgrade Fiber Channel drivers Problem - the new drivers are not loaded by HBA card.

Thank you Johnson. I have not tried your option yet. Btw, do I need to reboot the box after I apply "insf -e" command? Because if it does need a reboot, I will need to have schedule another outage.

Also the problem is happening on our another two production system. Same as apu002, they are 11.11 HPUX.

Re: Upgrade Fiber Channel drivers Problem - the new drivers are not loaded by HBA card.

Hi,

"insf -e" will NOT require a reboot.

Well, if you have problem in rebooting the server and wants something like binding the correct driver to your FC, try:

#ioscan -M -H

Things can get clear if you can post output of:
#ioscan -fnC fc

Re: Upgrade Fiber Channel drivers Problem - the new drivers are not loaded by HBA card.

Thanks R.K.

There is the ioscan -fnC fc results:
# ioscan -fnC fc
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=================================================================
fc 0 0/2/1/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter /dev/td0
fc 1 0/6/1/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter /dev/td1

I have already run "insf -e", but seems does not help, the driver is still:
Driver Version = @(#) libtd.a HP Fibre Channel Tachyon TL/TS/XL2 Driver B.11.11.12 PATCH_11.11 (PHSS_31326) /ux/kern/kisu/TL/src/common/wsio/td_glue.c: Sep 5 2005, 10:14:40

Could you please explain more about "#ioscan -M -H ",

What shall I put in ?

The following are the new drivers I installed:
root@apu002:/ # swlist -l product |grep Fib
FC-FCD B.11.11.16 FibreChannel;HW=A6826A,A9782A,A9784A,AB378A/B,AB379A/B,AB465A,AD193A,AD194A

FCMassStorage B.11.11 Fibre Channel Mass Storage
PHKL_34161 1.0 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Patch

Many thanks.

Re: Upgrade Fiber Channel drivers Problem - the new drivers are not loaded by HBA card.

Forcibly bind driver tape2 at the hardware path 8.4.1.
ioscan -M tape2 -H 8.4.1

Re: Upgrade Fiber Channel drivers Problem - the new drivers are not loaded by HBA card.

Hello,

How did you install the driver bundle ? The installation instructions for FibrChanl-00 bundle state that reboot after the installation is necessary. I suppose that this is due to the fact that fc driver is statically bound to the kernel.

I would suggest to try to reboot the system. If this does not help correcting your problem, reinstall the driver bundle according to the installation procedure.

Cheers,
J.
