First, do a cold instal instead of an upgrade. Second, do a search on the forums that will list you lot of threads discussing the same issue, steps and solutions. Refer this document on the TKB (#KBAN00000716):

Re: Upgrade form 10.20 to 11.00

IMHO, the best way to upgrade to 11.0 is to raw install. The 10.20 to 11.0 upgrade is rarely successful.

Re: Upgrade form 10.20 to 11.00

I would go for cold install 11.00 rather than upgrade it from 10.20.

Make a fresh ignite( make_tape_recovery) of your old system.

There are lots of documentation available in forum and as well in knowledge base.

Michelle:

Try this:

Also I will recommend you to do a cold installation instead of an upgrade.

Re: Upgrade form 10.20 to 11.00

If I were you, I wouldn't bother with 11.0 but instead go directly to 11.11. You are really only buying about another year of supported life with 11.0. The install is no more difficult and any of your 10.20 code that will run on 11.0 will run on 11.11.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Upgrade form 10.20 to 11.00

One other thing, Michelle. I would suggest going to 11i rather than 11.0. 11.0 has been out since '97, will be discontinued in Feb '04 and obsoleted in Dec '06.

Re: Upgrade form 10.20 to 11.00

I have to second the opinion that a cold install is much better than an upgrade. I have had alot of problems with the upgrade, and for varying reasons. One of the biggest is the size of file systems being greatly different between 10.x and 11.x.

A secondary consideration is that if your planning to upgrade to maintain legacy applications, remember that these applications may or may not work anyway. Usually they do, but I have seen problems with linking libraries that dont exist any more, or using no longer valid system calls.

Re: Upgrade form 10.20 to 11.00

We did perform two successful upgrades from 10.20 to 11.00 on K460 and D320 servers. I can give you more details if you choose to follow this path.
Just on a close note, - DO NOT try to upgrade 11.00 from 32bit to 64bit. This does NOT work even HP claimed it should.

Elena.
