upgrade from bind BIND 8.1.2 to be BIND 9.2.0
i have two DNS servers master and slave running bind 8.1.2, need to upgrade to 9.2.0
-do i have to upgrade the master and slave at the same time ?i mean one by one on the same downtime ? or
i can upgrade the slave first then one week later to upgrdae the master?

Re: upgrade from bind BIND 8.1.2 to be BIND 9.2.0
Emad,
have a look at:
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?hpweb_printable=true&productNumber=BIND812#migrate
I think you can run the 8.1.2 client with 9.2 server, but I would recommend doing the full upgrade on both at the same time to avoid problems.

Re: upgrade from bind BIND 8.1.2 to be BIND 9.2.0
what are the impact of doing the upgrade on two shots , one for slave DNS and the other for master DNS ?
are there kind of syncronization between slave and master ?that's why it's better to have fully upgrade on both DNS ?if yes how can we stop the sync between them and resync after complete the upgrdae on both?
attached the action plan for DNS upgrade , can you please have a look and recommend if needed.

Re: upgrade from bind BIND 8.1.2 to be BIND 9.2.0
Shalom Emad,
My approach would be to upgrade the master first. The slave will continue to function for a time while the master is being upgraaded.
BIND 9.2.x can work with older version slaves and the database format is the same, so once the master is working and doing zone transfers the slave can be upgraded at your leisure.
