Upgrade individual Products

I am a new hpux admin and I have been given the task of upgrading the OS products and applications running on hpux servers to match the latest and supported stuff. Recently I have upgraded Ignite to C.7.6. I need to know some other products that can be upgraded. Can some one give me some direction on what to see and how to verify if I have the latest available supported version installed on our servers.

Re: Upgrade individual Products

Try running swlist first to see what products you've got and what versions they are. Then maybe we can advise you on what could be upgraded.

Re: Upgrade individual Products

Shalom,

I hope you did an swremove on Ignite before you upgraded it or your customization will be lost.

There are two general categories here. Those depots that can be upgraded in place without impact, like secure shell, and those like Ignite that require you to back up your customization, swremove and then swinstall

I'd suggest swinstall -i to get a look at whats there.

Or:

swlist -l product

Re: Upgrade individual Products

Almost everything is from 2004 - I would suggest to use SWA to get the system updated.

Hope this helps!

Re: Upgrade individual Products

Again I agree with Torsten, some of your individual products probably require OS patches. You MUST review the patch depandancies for each be reading the release notes.

Much easier and/or probably required to get the OS up to date then work on the others as you are way way far behind.

With that said here is what I see from your list that you may be able to update independantly AFTER taking note of the above and I believe most do not require a reboot.

Again, most of these WILL require some patch level better than June 2004.

Re: Upgrade individual Products

I think the way I would approach this is to go to the Software Update Manager ( http://www.itrc.hp.com/service/sum/home.do ), download the latest patch bundles, then order the latest application CDs. You can then apply the patch bundles and go through the application CDs to update all your products. Some of the products, like the OpenView stuff, will probably need to be ordered separately because it's not delivered on the application CDs.

Re: Upgrade individual Products

Hi:

The SWA (Software Assistant Tool) will allow you to collect (download) *patches* and patch bundles.

You might want to refresh your non-patch products from:

http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/index.do

...along with a newer Operating Environment CD/DVD and/or the various Application CD/DVD media for your release:
