Upgrade SG from 11.18 to 11.19

Dear Gurus ,

I have 11i v3 application software disks , Sep 2010.
We have installed SG with Sep 2009 , application disk 2 of 2 by generating the code word.We want to upgrade to 11.19.As i understand , Sep 2010 app cd will alredy contain 11.19 SG version.
1)Can i use the same code word for Sep 2010 disk also , as i used for Sep 2009.
2)how to upgrade to to version 11.19 , is there some patch that will directly allow upgrade from 11.18 to 11.19 ..or i have to use Sep 2010 disk only.
both nodes running 11i v3, BOE, rx2600.

A very Mery Christmas and tons of fun !!

Re: Upgrade SG from 11.18 to 11.19

I got the answer to the first part ,
"A codeword is not required for software unlocked by previously stored codewords" and without providing the code word i am able to see these on a node alredy running SG 11.18 with Sep app disk 2 of 2 mounted :

T1905CA A.11.20.00.01 Serviceguard
T1907BA A.11.20.00 Serviceguard Extension for RAC
T2260AA B.01.00 Serviceguard Extension for Oracle EBS
T2803BA B.05.10 Serviceguard Extension for SAP

Re: Upgrade SG from 11.18 to 11.19

Passwords are DVD-specific, so if you load a new CD with protected software, you normally need a password to extract the software.

Upgrading from 11.18 to 11.19 can be done rolling : Move all packages to server2, stop ServiceGuard on server1, upgrade ServiceGuard on server1, and start it. It will rejoin the cluster.

The best procedure is that you swcopy the ServiceGuard software (+ additional modules like SGeRAC or SGeSAP) to a depot on disk. Then download the latest SG patches and put them in the same depot. These patches are mandatory for a rolling upgrade. I was an early 11.19 user, and I have seen the rolling upgrade fail. Newer patches have fixed those issues.

Read the upgrade guide about things to be carfull about during the upgrade.
Certainly, if you have packages with "AUTO_FAILBACK" enabled, disable autoswitching for these packages, as they will attempt to return to the upgraded server when the cluster is still forming and reconfiguring itself to the new version. This may crash your cluster.

Re: Upgrade SG from 11.18 to 11.19

Hi Wim ,
Thanks.
when i am trying to make a depot by copying it form dvdrom thru swcopy SG is not showing up in the list , however when i list ti , using swlist option it's showing up there :
# swlist -s /cdrom | grep -i serviceguard
T1905CA A.11.20.00.01 Serviceguard
T1907BA A.11.20.00 Serviceguard Extension for RAC
T2260AA B.01.00 Serviceguard Extension for Oracle EBS
T2803BA B.05.10 Serviceguard Extension for SAP

Hoe to go about making a depot of the SG and associated s/w.

What does your swcopy command look like?
Have you supplied the codeword before?

Re: Upgrade SG from 11.18 to 11.19

Hi Dennis,
yes i have supplied the code word before when i have installed the SG from Sep 2009 cd , now for swcopy of SG from Sep 2010 disk do i need to regenerate the code word word again , i can see the old codeword in my .codeword file.I am using swcopy -s /cdrom from command prompt directly to invoke the tui.

Yes, I would think each DVD would have a different codeword.
