Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

Hello,

We would like to upgrade a customer from HPUX 11i v2 to the same version May 2005. He has MirrorDisk/UX installed and has vg00 mirrored between two disks. I understand that the Mission Critical DVD contains MirrorDisk/UX, however I wouldn't like to upgrade to MCOE, since it contains loads of other software unnecessary to him. I would like only MirrorDisk/UX from the MCOE bundle. How can I do this? I tried to upgrade to MCOE interactive mode (with -i option) but couldn't select specifically MirrorDisk/UX (B2491BA).

Kind Regards,
Vince

I think, you would not be able to do it. I think MCOE install will do that automatically.

(Not sure though)

Did you try following??

swlist -l product B2491BA @ "bundle"

Mirror/UX is available separately.

If you have a codeword installed for mirror/ux alone, update-ux should pick it up and you should not be forced to use the MCOE package.

Its well known what I think of upgrade-ux but I'm stating how its supposed to work according to my understanding.

You cannot use MirrorDisk/UX in the MCOE, I think you should buy a seperate licence for MirrorDisk/UX.

Re: Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

Hello,

Update-ux does this:

* Reading source for file information.
NOTE: The filesystems in the filesystem table will not be checked
against those currently mounted because the
"mount_all_filesystems" option is set to "false".
ERROR: LVM Mirror option may be in use for logical volume
group /dev/vg00. Mirror option must be deactivated
before LVM-MIRROR-RUN can be removed. Once that is done,
re-execute swremove for LVM-MIRROR-RUN. Contact your
system administrator for help.
ERROR: The "checkremove" script for "LVM.LVM-MIRROR-RUN" failed (exit
code "1"). The script location was
"/var/adm/sw/products/LVM/LVM-MIRROR-RUN/checkremove".
WARNING: This script had errors but the execution of this fileset will
still proceed because the "enforce_scripts" option was set to
"false". Check the above output from the script for further
details.

* Summary of Analysis Phase:
WARNING: Remove LVM.LVM-MIRROR-RUN,l=/,r=B.11.23
WARNING: 1 of 1 filesets had Warnings.
WARNING: The Analysis Phase had warnings. See the above output for
details.

* Beginning the Unconfigure Execution Phase.
* Filesets: 1
* Files: 68
* Kbytes: 2888
* Removing bundle "B2491BA,l=/,r=B.11.23" .
* Running remove setup command /usr/lbin/sw/remove_setup.

* Beginning the Remove Execution Phase.
* Removing fileset "LVM.LVM-MIRROR-RUN,l=/,r=B.11.23" (1 of 1).

* Summary of Execution Phase:
* 1 of 1 filesets had no Errors or Warnings.
* The Execution Phase succeeded.

It just uninstalls MirrorDisk/UX before continuing. I'd like this not to happen and just upgrades MirrorDisk/UX using the one in MCOE DVD. The customer has a licence (otherwise vg00 is not mirrored!) and it is found successfully in .codewords file.

Re: Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

Hi Vince

MirrorDisk/UX is a licensed product. If you have support agreement with HP, Codeword for new version shall be free or else you will have to purchase a new license. Without Codeword , you will not be able to see this product on install Media.

Re: Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

I missed that you are doing an upgrade. In that case, I would suggest that break the mirror, create copy of root disk and proceed. When you install MCOE, that shold install new mirror disk software by itself.

Re: Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

The customer has Foundation OE, not MCOE. I would like to upgrade using Foundation OE + MirrorDisk/UX if it is possible, so that I won't have to install MirrorDisk/UX afterwards and remirror. He has only MirrorDisk/UX as a feature from MCOE, that is why I don't want to upgrade to MCOE.

Re: Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

Vince,

You're going to have to:

1) break the mirrors
2) do the upgrade with Foundation OE
3) re-install MirrorDisk from MCOE - you will need a codeword in order to do this. You should be able to get a codeword from HP.

Re: Upgrade to 11i v2 May 2005 with MirrorDisk/UX installed

Thanks, that's clear enough. I already have Application DVD + respective codeword. I will have to upgrade in this manner, then.
