Upgrading BIND-8.2.5 to BIND-9.2.0
I want to upgrade existing BIND-8.2.5 to BIND-9.2.0 i am not sure about the upgrade as it is for the first time i upgrading so is there a backup and restore procedure for the existing BIND as some point of time i might have to use it.

If you install the bind9.2 from ignite or dvd or package , swinstall will automatically takes care of old bind and installs new version without losing the existing configuration.

The zone files are compatible.
Back up the data to be certain, you may have new options for named.conf, and you may need some down time to get the daemon to start after upgrade.

Before upgrading you have to backup hosts file, named.conf and any zone files.
