Upgrading from HP-UX 9.04 to HP-UX 11

Is it possible to upgrade my E35 box currently running V9.04 to V10 then onto V11 ?

Thanks

Jason.

Hi,

You may upgrade from 9.04 to 10.x using the getttols by HP.( In case your root filesystem has enough space and you are using LVM)

But i am afraid you can't upgrade from 10.x to 11.X.

My sincere suggestion is to do a fresh loading.

Thanks for your answer, So If I wipe the system and just load V11 it should work ?

Loading HP-UX 11.x from scratch is a much better option than going through a upgrade process from 9.x.

It will also give you the oppportunity to make file system layout changes.

Re: Upgrading from HP-UX 9.04 to HP-UX 11

I went from 9.04 to 10.20 - I am on an E55.

I bought a new system disk, as I needed the disk space anyway.

Then I rented another E55 ($1000 for one week) and did a fresh install of 10.20 on the new disk, while it was attached to the rented box.

Zero downtime on the production box - and no nights, no weekends - During that week, I installed the new OS (several times, until I was pleased with it) then transferred applications, printer setups, etc etc. from my own E55.

Then, when I was ready, I just moved the disk over to my E55, made it the boot disk, and then returned the rented box.

The $1000 for the rental paid for itself no matter how you look at it; no downtime, no stress, no time constraints.

Worth considering.
