Upgrading PERL question

I am trying to get all our servers to teh same patch levels. Starting with Perl. The oldest system has d.5.8.3.d I want to upgrade it to 5.8.8.d. Do I need to unistall .3 before or can I just install the .8 depot? If I have to uninstall first, how do I do this?

Re: Upgrading PERL question

No need to uninstall. Installing from the new depot will upgrade.

Perl 5.8.3 and 5.8.8 should be binary compatible (unless you get the depots from different sources).

Re: Upgrading PERL question

Hi Bob:

You don't need to uninstall. Simply install the newer version.

If 'swinstall' is used for installation; to un-install, you use 'swremove'.

Regards!

Re: Upgrading PERL question

Shalom,

This is one of those exceptions to the general rule.

For Ignite you must do a removal prior to a new version to get proper functionality. Its also recommended in the case of many add ins like CIFS/9000 samba.

For stuff like PERL I've pretty much just upgraded for years. In place, only one time broke a script.
