Upgrading to RP5470

Hi all!
Jumping into the fire a bit, a system upgrade to rp5470 at 750MHz, this is a full system upgrade, backplane, CPU, the works.
Has anyone performed this upgrade and would like to share their findings, scripts for vgexport/vgimport, and any known errors encountered. I know what steps to perform IAW vgexport. What I am concerned with is the boot device. Seeing that the hardware paths are going to change, will I need to perform Ignite options or not?
Need answers ASAP, wanting to do this Thurs and Sunday morning, and time is critical.

Yes you should always keep two copies of Ignite backup. Keep a copy of the ioscan. If the I/O path get changed , boot in single user mode , change the instance No. and rebuild the kernel. In that way you can keep your instance No. as same if you want.

In these situations, It is always better to export the volume group first with the map file and then take another Ignite backup of the system with only vg00.

I am taking an L-1000 440Mhz machine to an rp5470, dual 650Mhz in the morning. I am on the phone with HP support trying to figure out if, in fact, the hardware address of the new SCSI board will change and how to get booted back up on my original boot disk, without going to tape for my OS. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Update:
There is a CD that came with your upgrade that has detailed (their words) instructions on performing the upgrade. It is suggested reading material (prior to the upgrade).

So I have the upgrade in and only NOW do I hear that I need HP-UX 11.0 IPR0109 or later. So I am faced with downgrading the hardware, upgrading the OS and then upgrading the hardware. I could reinstall the OS if I had IPR0109 or later but I don???t. I have March 2001 Core OS. The moral is upgrade your OS. Also, my CE had to come out, generate and enter my Certification Key as, even though the doc says get it from licensing.hp.com, I didn???t get the Request form so I called and they said HP has to do it. I am glade I had him out though.

More on the problems with upgrading. Make sure you upgrade your GSP to rev B. Not required, although I am not sure why not, but I can???t get booted without the new GSP. Go figure. So to recap:

1. Latest HWE bundle
2. Latest QPK bundle
3. Have support ready to come out and enter your upgrade key
4. make sure you not your pri, alt, console path BEFORE you begin
5. print vgdisplay ???v
6. print lvdisplay on all lvols
7. print bdf
8. print ioscan
9. schedule 10 hours or more of downtime.
10. make sure you upgrade your GSP to rev b (hardware upgrade)
11. remember, you can never have too many ignite tapes.
12. make sure you have bandaids.
