UPS connection with rx7640

Hi,
We have just installed rx7640 (with 2 cell boards & redundant I/O controllers). 4 vpars configured in server now we want to connect the UPS with rx7640 and need to do required configuration for auto shutdown off all vpars when there is AC outage.

Please let me know the URL of docuement that describes the related information or any guidelines.

Shalom Muhammad,

If its an HP provided UPS, merely connect it to the UPS port. Thats on the core I/O card of the system.

If you use a APC for example, you will need to get their powershoot software, which hopefully has been ported to Itanium and use it to shut down the vpars.

Hi SEP,
Many thanks for prompt reply but there is no serial port on rs7640 server only LAN port of Core I/O can be used for the local mangement of UPS.

The URL that you sent is related to HP UPS and serial connectivity only whereas APC UPS are installed in our setup.

Hi,

if the UPS has only serial connectors and the server has only LAN connectors - it cannot work.

Check if there is a LAN based soluton available for your UPS, if yes, install it, install the software on each vPar and this will work.

Many thanks for response. LAN Management Card is available on APC UPS but I just need to know that what configuration is requried on all vpars.

If you have a software for communication over LAN you need to install it on every vPar, of course.

I've been struggling with this myself. Here is the thread I started, hoping to get some help from the gurus here at the Forums:

At one point I thought I had it figured out, but it now appears that I jumped to a false conclusion and I'm still struggling with it. You can, however, get the basic install and configure procedure from the above thread.

I remember also that your MP has an "UPS" command. The MP will poll the UPS (using the LAN) for the current status and will send a signal to the OS to shutdown if power fails.

But I also think to remember this works only with current UPS model made by HP.

I will check the UPS command from MP as suggested by Torsten.
