URGENT HELP-User License

Hi All,

I have an HP 10.20 machine (i know its an ancient OS) but it has a 2 user license (based on the output of uname -a)
Can someone please tell me how i can upgrade it to:
1) 32 user license
2) unlimited user license.

Thanks in advance.

Re: URGENT HELP-User License

hi,

with 10.2 you had to order a licence for 8,16,32 etc users.
with this you got a codeword to install that allowed you to upgrade. Dont think you'll be able to anymore though.
try and contact hp at
www.licensing.hp.com
they maybe able to help you further

Re: URGENT HELP-User License

Dig through your licensing documentation. You should have a codeword that is matched to a CD Part No. When you find that, it's just a matter of a swinstall -> Actions ->Add New Codewords.

BTW, the license count only applies to users connected through serial lines. All of the telnet/rlogin users count as 1. So if you have a user on the console and 50 users connected via telnet, for licensing purposes this is 2 users. Do ask me why, I don't make the rules.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: URGENT HELP-User License

As you know, 10.20 is no more supported by HP. But it's worth contacting HP support and ask if they can still give you a codeword for more user licenses. All you need to do is then to add this codeword with swinstall command.

Btw, why do you need more license now? Are you adding more terminals?

Re: URGENT HELP-User License

Nick,

As Clay mentions, all the connections but serial only count as 1. The way this was explained to me was that HP figured you were alread paying a license to run Exceed or Reflections or whatever on your PC and there was no point/market to charging you again.

That sort of makes sense, I guess.

Re: URGENT HELP-User License

1) was called B3897A_AGN
2) was called B3897A_AGS according to the documents I could find.

Some day, the unlimited user license was available freely for downloading, but I do not know what the license terms were.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
