My HPUX version is 10.2

The patch is A49994A. Where could I download this patch?

I want to do the partition on 36GB harddisk, how to I start?

Re: Urgent! please help on partition on C180 workstation

Well, right off the bat, there is no HPux patch called A49994A. HPux patches are usually named PHCO_##### or such. Maybe you have a part number (A49994A) that you are missing?

Second, to "partition" a 36gb disk, use sam, create a volume group, add logical volumes to it, when in doubt, select help.

Re: Urgent! please help on partition on C180 workstation

Thanks Harry D,

I quite new in HPUX. Maybe was my mistaked given the wrong patch number, but my vendor told me that i have to download the patch A4999A. So, where could i download the part number A4999A SCSI card patch in order to solve this problem.

Is any HP workstation come with SAM?

Thank you for all HPUX experts and comments.

Thanks,
Peston.

Re: Urgent! please help on partition on C180 workstation

The A4999A is a SCSI CARD:

The A4999A is intended for connection to new and recent "low voltage" (3.3v signalling) differential SCSI devices, including Ultra2 and Ultra160. Low-voltage differential supports cable lengths up to 12.5m.

maybe your vendor means you might need a patch to get it to work? but I couldn't find any!

Re: Urgent! please help on partition on C180 workstation

Thank you to all.

I couldn't find the patch in HP website for download the part number HP A49994A. Any one can help?

If I find the patch, using swinstall command would update the patch. right? Any comments?

Second, How do I 'partition my harddisk 36GB' using create logical volume group and add logical volume without SAM?

Thanks
Peston.

Re: Urgent! please help on partition on C180 workstation

There is no patch necessary for A4999A.

vgcreate /dev/vg01 /dev/dsk/

Create a logical volume of size 100 Mbytes in volume group /dev/vg01:

lvcreate -L 100 /dev/vg01

Please, do a man on vgcreate and lvcreate. The whole idea behind sam is that you don't have to remember the complicated command syntax. Trust me its a lot easier to use sam. Install it, it's a no brainer!

Re: Urgent! please help on partition on C180 workstation

Hi,

I think the patches you are looking for that
relate to SCSI on HP-UX 10.20 are as follows.
PHKL_13044
PHKL_16751
PHKL_21085
To see if you have already run this and look for
the output of those numbers.
# /usr/sbin/swlist -l fileset

To partition your disk using LVM follow these
commands.

# pvcreate /dev/rdsk/cxtxdx (substitute your
disk)
# mkdir /dev/vg01 (assuming you don't have one)
# mknod /dev/vg01/group c 64 0x010000
# vgcreate -p 128 /dev/vg01 /dev/dsk/cxtxdx
# lvcreate -n xxxx (use name you wish)
# lvextend -L 1024 /dev/vg01/xxxx
(substitute the size to what you like, this is
in Mb)
to mount it etc
# mkdir /mountpoint
# newfs -F vxfs /dev/vg01/rxxxx
# mount /dev/vg01/xxxx /mountpoint
Edit your /etc/fstab file so that the filesystem
gets mounted next time you reboot.
