Re: USB hard disk in hp ux

Hello Yazidhani,
which versio are you using for hpux?

I believe Usb hardisk can not detect by HPux, you may configure samba in hpux and share out data which you need to take backup, thanks,

Re: USB hard disk in hp ux

USB support in HP-UX is very very limited.

See this document about USB support in the latest release of HP-UX 11.31:

http://docs.hp.com/en/15027/UpdatetoUSBDriverSupportonHPUX11iv3.pdf

Note that the document says "Currently, HP-UX does not support USB hard drives or USB tape devices." (at the bottom of page 1).

The March 2009 release of HP-UX 11.31 has some limited USB flash drive support. 11.23 with the latest updates will have about the same limited level of support. 11.11 and older don't have any USB storage device support at all.

If you can plug the USB disk in another computer that runs some other OS, you might be able to share that disk over the network using the Unix-style NFS (or with Windows-style SMB/CIFS, if you have the CIFS client software installed on the HP-UX). If you do this, a backup can be made just like on any other remote disk.
