Use of make_net_recovery in a production system

Hi,

how secure can be using "make_net_recovery -s ip-ignite-server -i" from a production server with Oracle 9 and SAP?
I mean, I need to backup via make_net_recovery a vg where are located files in use by Oracle.
What can I do to prevent possible problems?
Thanks in advance.

Hello.
Ignite backup is not recomended to backup files not related to the operating system.

and besides ignite does not work with files bigger than 2 GB, so if you backup oracle datafiles it will probably crash the ignite backup.

to backup oracle you should use rman, omniback or dataprotector.

hope this helps

Hi

I agree with Fabian , the make_net_recovery is only for the OS backup non vg00 is not backed up. You might have to use some other method to back that vg like RMAN or Omniback .
