Re: usefull books

hi,

the book by Rafeeq Ur Rehman on "HP-Certified HP-UX System Administration" is a must and also "HP-UX 11.X" by Pontiatowsky is not bad.

if u r not willing to spend much, docs.hp.com (in your case, http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11.0.html) will do as well.

regards.

Re: usefull books

Hi,

Welcome to HP-UX forum.

I have posted a similar thread of this the following link so want to share with you.

My choice was to buy " hp-ux 11i system administration handbook and toolkit" by poniatowski, the book still guides me to the right way how to manage HP-UX.

Re: usefull books

John,

Let me also add a few good words about Marty
P's book. It is very straight forward and pretty much covers A-Z. I admit that I haven't read the whole thing, but it is a damn good resourec. If you are going into a shop with a heavy HA and D/R environment, I would also add picking up Bob Sauers book on HA for tips about MCServiceGuard.

Re: usefull books

John,

Another good source to check out would be Interex and their presentation libraries from past HPWorld and InterWorks Conferences. Stephen Ciuollo (SP) has presented several real good full day tutorials on HP-UX internals. Another frequent speaker at both conferences is David Totsch. He has done some great work with Bill Hassell in getting HP-UX admins up and running. Stephen and David, I believe still work for HP and Bill is an independent source who used to work for HP.

My apolgies to Stephen about the spelling of his name...

Re: usefull books

Hi John,

Just adding my support for the "HP-Certified HP-UX System Administration" by Rafeeq Ur Rehman and "HP-UX 11.X" by Pontiatowsky also. They're both excellent books.

I lent my HP Certified book to a senior Solaris administrator who wanted to learn HPUX and he said that it was one of the best technical books if not the best book that he's ever read.

Cheers,
Anthony

Re: usefull books

I'd go for the "HP-Certified HP-UX System Administration" book as well as the best online source for HP-UX - http://docs.hp.com

To Nguyen Anh Tien

The link looks like good, if you are not a contract user of ITRC, can't get the link I think.

Thanks.

Re: usefull books

my personal choices from HP's bookshelf were:
HP-UX Virtual Partitions
HP-UX 11i internals (oh yes)
Troubleshooting NFS
HP-UX security
(most are relating to 11.11 - some day You'll be doing the upgrades ;)

and from docs.hp.com I'd fly over about all system administration, SD-UX, Patch management and Administering Arpa.

Also read the HP-UX bastion host howto.

The HP-relevant newsgroup is comp.sys.hp.hpux, there's also some mailinglists, but the itrc has by far the highest traffic.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
