Hello. I was thinking - how to get off the messages or change then while logging to server.
I found that there are 2 files, where I can change them (/etc/motd & /etc/issue). I got 2 questions about them:

1. /etc/issue - I changed it's content but the changed message appears only on the console - not while logging from Windows machine by X-Reflection or sth. like that, I got not changed message. Why?

2. I would like to get rid of the message (long message about copyrights, HP address and more). How can I make this? Is there any file with this text?

This is from page 2-6 of the workbook for the H/P Course; Practical Unix and Network Security.

The login banner for telnet and rlogin is /etc/issue. But the login banner for CDE is elsewhere.
1) cp /usr/dt/config/C/Xresources /etc/dt/config/C/Xresources

2) Edit the file /etc/dt/config/C/Xresources and add 'DT*greeting*labelString: "Your Security Message Here"' somewhere near the bottom of that file

3) /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc reset
This restarts the CDE login with the new message

Just on the last point - At a talk by Bill Hasell a couple of years ago he suggested that if you don't want the copyright stuff coming up you should really copy the contents to a seperate file and just have one line displaying specifying that copyright infomation is availble by looking at that file - I guess this covers you from any legal aspects (however unlikely that may be - Now if HP was Microsoft its a different matter !!!)
