Re: user license

Hi Mike:

For some strange reason, telnet and rlogin users do not count. However, user's logged in via serial connections (modems or direct serial) count. Moreover, the number of NFS clients, RPC clients, etc. doesn't matter either.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: user license

Hi,

The license structure as I understand it is:

telnet & rlogin count as 1 no matter the number. serial connections are counted as each and so do directly attached modems. I am pretty sure that any other type of connection is not counted at all.

Suggest you obtain an unlimited user license
which are now free, then you won't have a problem at all from HP or www.software.hp.com

Re: user license

From TKB document UNX1000274

Problem Description

Are multiple network logins counted as multiple users for your user licensing?

Solution

No, it's still one user per physical interface (serial port, LAN card, etc.).

Re: user license

This is a throwback to the olden days of unix where users had hardwired terminals connected to the servers. But these days, since most users use telnet/rlogin/and other means of network connection, the user license means much less.
From what I was told by HP many years ago, each serial connection is one user and *all* the telnet/rlogin, etc users are also one user. So unless you have lots of serial connections you really don't need to worry about the user license...and besides, as was already mentioned several times...you can get the unlimited user license for free.
