useradd with more than 8 character

How can I add a user which has more than 8 characters. Im running hp-ux 10.20

I see there are a lot of issues, which may arrise by adding users with more than 8 char.

My reason for this is samba, when I add users with samba it looks for them in the passwd file. Now their pc's all have their complete first initial & surname. Users with id's less that 8 char. are fine, but as soon as a user more than 8 characters as their pc name tries to access the samba share, it fails. I have created usersnames for them on the system & on samba with the first 8 characters of their UID's, but they are still not able to access the share
Any other suggestions.
