username length limitation

Is there a way to have usernames longer than 8 characters on hp-ux 11?

Is there any sort of patch to increase it to 10 or 12?

pam is providing some sort of solution with ldap, but still, commands like id, ls -l, only return the first 8 characters of the username.

Any suggestions?

Hi:

There is a document that you should read first from the Technical Knowledge database (# KBRC00003778). It discusses the drawbacks and identifies patch PHCO_21833 as the enabler should you elect to proceed. This patch has been superseded by PHCO_24838.

I could not find document KBRC00003778. Any help on this?

When going through PHCO_24838 description, it doesn't seem to encourage creation of usernames longer than 8 characters. Any experience?

Stefan's link was interesting, mainly on mail aliases.

Whenever you have trouble finding a document in the Knowledge Base, *make sure* that your are logged into the ITRC. This enables your full access rights.
