Using a Serial Adapter Interface for a TFT7600 display and HP-UX

Is it possible to use a HP serial adapter interface with a HP TFT7600 display and HP-UX? I am using a HP IP Console Switch and HP KVM Server Console Switch. I am trying to use this as a replacement for my 700/96 console terminal. I have attached a HP serial interface adapter to my console port of my rp3410 running 11.11. The terminal emulation is a VT100. I managed to get a logon prompt but for some reason my keystrokes for my password which contains special characters above the numeric keys on the keyboard are not accepted. My root password contains the ? and is accepted, therefore I am able to logon as root, but my oracle password contains special characters #% and does not work. Also, when I log in as root and then try to su - oracle, it logs me in but does not prompt me for a password. Any ideas?

Shalom,

I don'tthink this device is supported as a console. Proper serial consoles are available on EBAY and in most data centers.

Your rp3410 server also has a GSP/MP port. This can be set up as a network accessible console you can telnet to.

Regarding the password:

"Avoid password characters which have special meaning to the tty driver, such as # (erase) and @ (kill). You may not be able to login with these characters."

see

Hope this helps!

Morris,

Yes thats expected behaviour - root is the super-user - it doesn't need a password to assume any other users identity via su.

Hi Stephen,

Do you absolutely for sure that this is not supported as a console?
