Using a time server with HP UX
Is there a way to have my HP UX system (v11.00) retrieve it's time from my Win 2K time server?
Thanks
Juan

Re: Using a time server with HP UX
Sure. It's how we do it here. Just setup xntpd to run and edit your /etc/ntp.conf file to point to your time server. As long as the Windows box does the correct time protocol your HP-UX box won't really care what is running the time server. We've been doing it that way here for several years and it works fine.

Re: Using a time server with HP UX
Just setup NTP server on your win2k machine and point the ntp server to win2k on your HP system.
You may have to purchase the software for win2k though.
The config files for NTP on HP are /etc/rc.config.d/netdaemons and /etc/ntp.conf. Once you modify netdamones, start ntp with the command /sbin/init.d/xntpd start and it should start sync'ing up from the winnt server based on configuration in /etc/ntp.conf

Re: Using a time server with HP UX
ntpq -p
If it works OK, just use SAM to enable NTP to sync to the Win2k server.

Re: Using a time server with HP UX
It simply will not work with Unix.
Beyond that, Windows 2000 and up is better, but there is an ntp add in program that works well with that platform.
