using make_tape_recovery while system in production

In the past I have placed my system in single user mode before running "make_tape_recovery -A". Are there any issues with running this boot tape creation while the system is in a full production mode (i.e. multi-user mode)?

This system is running HP-UX 11.11 and Oracle 8.0.6

Re: using make_tape_recovery while system in production

I have never taken a system down to single-user mode to run an Ignite backup. I really don't see the point in going to single-user mode.

We have our make_tape_recovery's scheduled to run unattended every Saturday morning. Having to go to single-user mode would really be a pain in the a** for 25 machines.

I would recommend that it be run while there is not a whole lot going on with the system, but otherwise you can run it anytime.
