Hi all -
As you can see by all the posts I'm doing today, I'm slightly freaking.
Here's the story.. Tried extending root on server1 this afternoon, everything looked as though it went ok, but alas upon reboot, got nothing but problems, gsp alerts stating software failure as well as a continuous reboot, with a dump.
Tried using system1's ignite tape, however it seems as though it is not going to work.
System1 has a sister server called system2. System2 is a production server, system1 is a development server and system2's fail over.
OK - I would like to use system2's ignite tape on system1. Both are rp2400's, and the root files are almost identical. Can I do this? I'm worried about the array that both of the systems share and IF I do this, will it affect the production server in any way?
I'm sure there are some files that I will need to modify, anyone know which ones those are? I'm worried about using system2's ignite tape and rebooting and system1 thinking it's system2 and start overwriting system2's disks that are attached in the array.
I've never had to use ignite before to restore, so what can I do to make this work?

Solution
Hi Denda,
Since both the HW platforms are identical you can surely restore the ignite image..
Now you have concerns about the array connected to ur production server.. They won't be accessed by this node as the hw path from this node will not be identical .. even if you want to be 200% sure then remove this server from the network and don't connect any cables to this server until you boot it after restore..
This way there won't be any references for the devices which are no connected to this server.
So remove all the external arrays and network then restore the image.. After it's done make necessary changes for hostname and ip address ....

Time has a wonderful way of weeding out the trivial

Re: using one ignite tape to restore a different system
Thank you so much!
I actually have already done this, thought what the heck really don't have much more to lose but sleep! ;o)
I now am copying over the tar file from the ignite tape that wouldn't work and hopefully things will start working again!
