using the snort command

Hi,
I using the snort command I get this error.

/opt/snort/bin/snort -a
Log directory =
Reading Conf File...

Initializing Network Interface lan0
ERROR: OpenPcap() device lan0 open:
can't find PPA for /dev/lan0
Fatal Error, Quitting..

Please help if you can.

You might need a newer libpcap ::
