using wlm for managing io
I work with Uri. We are now starting to use wlm and are looking for examples on how to use it for managing disk bandwidth usage. There are lots of examples on CPU, but none on memory or IO. Is somebody using it or seen examples?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: using wlm for managing io
Hi Shelley,
Page 96 in the WLM 2.0 manual describes how to set up disk bandwidth entitlements. WLM uses the PRM disk bandwidth controls to implement the controls. They are on a per LVM Volume Group basis. You can run the prmavail command to identify which volume groups are on the system.
I will put in a request to have them add memory and disk control examples in the next release.

Re: using wlm for managing io
Hello Shelley,
More examples (including memory and I/O) have been added to the "Configuring HP-UX Workload Manager Version A.02.00" whitepaper. It can be found at http://www.hp.com/go/wlm under the "information library" tab.
Please feel free to give me your feedback regarding the examples. I would be interested in learning how useful you find them, and how they could possibly be improved in the future.

Re: using wlm for managing io
Thanks for the examples, they have been helpful in terms of syntax, but I still don't know how I can actually see the difference.
I tried using sar -d, but couldn't understand the actual meaning of what I was getting.
I understand the disk bandwidth has something to do with the queueing of the lvm - is this true? How can I monitor it?
Shelley.
