/usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
I cannot continue to install patches because its /usr is already 98%. This file system is not as easy as /var in terms of purging.
There is no space left for VG00 to extend this file system. So the only way is to remove files from it. Can anybody help me advise what files/directories can be remove? Another option I have in mind is to swremove some product/fileset.
PHCO_16493 1.0 Korean ko_KR.utf8 locale src and binary
PHSS_24933 1.0 Korean TrueType font patch for 11.0
Let me know your thoughts or ideas. Thanks!

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
you probably do not want to hear this, but anyway : how about adding disks? Your system lvols are small-sized: /var & /usr tend to grow beyond 1GB.
You can try to move parts of VG00 to another volume group, so you can enlarge /usr, but in the end a new disk might be cheaper.
good luck,
Thierry.

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
have you checked what takes up the space? Please try this:
# cd /usr
# du -sk *
and show us the result.

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
Actually the disk space for VG00 is ~12 GB and our swap size is ~5 GB...
As far as i know this file system should be a static FS unless we did patching. Quite strange to see it increasing. I had already looked on its directories but i don't have any idea which files can be remove.

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
it is difficult to say what is unusual on a system you do not know, but the /usr/lib is above average size. However, there may be nothing unusual about that, but would you please try and do this:
# cd /usr/bin
# du -sk *|sort -kn1
which will show the biggest files in /usr/lib sorted. Please show us the last, say 15 lines.
regards,
John K.

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
one option is to move away your second swap are from vg00 into another vg.
remove this seconf swap area from fstab
reboot anbd recreate your second swap are in the other vg.
Of course you will need the 4Gb free elsewhere !

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
it surprises me a bit that nothing in /usr/lib stands out as particularly big: the biggest, X11, is only 10493 kb and not unusual. The ones following, cue, kermit and elm are quite small. I cannot see that it should be possible to delete anything that can free any considerable amount of space. However, have you deleted something from /usr recently? Just asking, as there is the odd chance that a file was deleted while a process was still writing on it - your original posting where you stated that the /usr was 98% full and now 100% full gave me this idea. If there is a chance that this has happened, then reboot the system, which will free the space taken up by the writing process.
If the above is not the case I am afraid I have not a lot more to offer..
regards,
John K.

Re: /usr is already 98% - no space left for VG00
I guess we need to add another disk to VG00 as some of your ideas like swap move to another VG is not feasible and take too much work to do...
Anyways, i will give points to all of you. Since i will be on training on the following day, i will now close this post.
Thanks again!
