Re: utmpd taking 100% cpu utilization
Hi,
and welcome to the forums !
Has your utmp file been corrupted and the daemon is trying to update ?
See "man fwtmp"
Anything extra in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log ?
Please also read:

Re: utmpd taking 100% cpu utilization
Hi samson,
utmpd which is user accounting database daemon, manages the user accounting database which is the database of currently logged-in users.
Now,this daemon takes care of synchronizing the legacy /etc/utmpx file and its own in-memory database. The synchronization is bi-directional from the utmpd's database to the /etc/utmpx and from the /etc/utmpx file to utmpd's database. However, this synchronization does not happen in real time. There is a time lag which could span from a few seconds on a lightly loaded system to a few minutes on a heavily loaded system.
So,if its showing 100% CPU utilization, then i suggest first check
/var/syslog messages to see whats actually happening.
Can you please copy the syslog messages & sar o/p here.
Thanks & Regards
Reshma
