Hi,

HP-UX was first shipped in 1983 on series 500 desktop machine.

The first version(1983) of HP UNIX was known as version 1.0.

HP announced its precision architecture in the second half of 1986.

Versions from 3.1 to 7 were used on PA-RISC
The last release for the series 500 was version 5.2

Version 8 was used on series 700/800.

Version 9.x (July 92-95) --- 9.00, 9.01, 9.03(s700), 9.04(s800), 9.05, 9.07, 9.10. These provided support for the series 300, 700 and 800 HP systems.

Version 10.0(1995) --- Applications were removed from /usr and moved under /opt. LVM was replaced with the older methods of disk management.

Version 10.20(1996) --- This release included support for PA-RISC processors.

Version 10.24 --- Virtual vault release. Enhanced security features.

Version 10.30(1997) --- Support for kernel threads. Fully year 2000 compliant.

Version 11.00(1997) --- Supported 64 bit addressing.

Version 11.10 --- Supported scalable computing architecture.

Version 11.11/11i(2000) --- Concept of operating environments. The â iâ was introduced to indicate the OS is internet â enabled. Support for hard partitions, gigabit Ethernet, NFS over TCP/IP.


Version 11.20/11i v1.5(2001) --- Supported Itanium based (IA 64) systems.

Version 11.22/11i v1.6(2002) --- 64 way scalability and MxN threads.

Version 11.23/11i v2(2003) --- Web based kernel and Ipv6 standard. Enhanced security and strong random number generation.

Version 11.31/11i v3(ETA end of 2006) --- Will support both PA-RISC and IA 64.

Actually the releases for the PA-RISC 800 servers started with 1.0, then went thru 1.2, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1 and then jumped to 7 to "merge with the workstation releases which at that time was 6.x

One thing to change in Sunny's reply is that 11.32 (11iv3) is shipping now.

grr, 11.31, not 11.32, there is no such thing as 11.32
